Temporary Closing of the Store

Foodtown of Mount Vernon apologizes for the Temporary Closing of the store.

As you may recall the major rain & wind storm that swept through the North East on Saturday, March 13 causing extensive damage to the neighborhood, including Foodtown Supermarket. The storm caused damage to the store's roof allowing for water damage to occur within.

A lot of inventory has been disposed of & a VERY THOROUGH CLEANING CAMPAIGN has been maintained since that fateful day.

Voluntarily the NYS Department of Health was called in by our managers to inspect the store. Inspectors for the NYS Department of Health have CERTIFIED Foodtown of Mount Vernon Sanitary & have approved the store to RE-OPEN.

NYS Dept of Health has given us complete authorization to Re-Open. Over 60 Foodtown Staff Members & their families are READY to serve the community. The Mount Vernon's Building Dept has refused to allow Foodtown Supermarket to re-open while roof repairs are made. We are asking for your help!

Please help Foodtown of Mount Vernon Re-Open by contacting your local city representative,
House of Worship, Mount Vernon's Building Dept, and/or the Mayor's Office at 914-965-2361-62-63.

  11. We all have been waiting very patiently for this supermarket to open. Personally, I feel that two weeks is more than enough time to do a thorough cleaning of and to make any roof and/or necessary repairs to this building. Every day I walk to and from my job, which is in very close proximity to Foodtown, and therefore I pass by this store regularly and at numerous times throughout each day. Unless all of these repairs are occurring during the late evening hours I have not yet seen ANYONE working on or at this store. The ONLY time that I DID happen to see someone inside the supermarket was one day earlier this week....but that lone person wasn't doing anything more than just talking on the wall phone in the front of the store. My frustration level grows exponentially each time I walk by that store and I still see the yellow tape strung up outside. So PLEASE Foodtown, let's see some regular daily ACTION feverishly taking place so that we can FINALLY get this store back in tip top shape and have it up and running again!

  12. If Foodtown must deal with the Mount Vernon Building Department...Good Luck. MVBD will milk this one dry. Not to mention that they most likely can't find any paperwork that they filed, they will be assessing several made-up additional hefty FEES to Foodtown, they will not answer your phone calls, and will change their own rules as they go. City Hall wants this town to grow and thrive....then stop deterring new businesses and and like from coming here! They make it virtually impossible and extremely expensive for anyone to open a business in this town.
    Good Luck.

  13. I am truly ashamed at this administrations lack of concern for its citizens, especially our elderly living in this area. We have three (3) senior housing developments within a three block radius of this store as well as many more that live in the surrounding area that cannot travel far to do their food shopping. I look to you Mayor Young to do what is necessary to expedite this matter with the building department to get this store re-opened immediately! We are looking to you Mr. Mayor to stand by your campaign promises to improve and maintain the quality of life for “All” citizens of Mt. Vernon.
    Mrs. C. Cunningham
